1.0INTRODUCTION

1.1Background information

A shower curtain is a piece of fabric or plastic that hangs from a rod around a shower. It provides privacy while showering. In ancient history, shower curtains as we know them did not exist but people did use various methods to manage water and maintain privacy while bathing .Before the advent of indoor plumbing , people used to bath in public bathhouses or bathed at home in tubs without privacy curtains.

Egyptians use screens or woven mats made from reds or palm fibers to create private bathing spaces. The primary concern was more about separating the bathing areas rather than containing water like a modern shower curtain .In medieval times, bathing was less common but when it occurred, privacy was often managed by using heavy drapes or curtains usually made of wool or linen to separate bathing areas. The historical methods focused on managing space and privacy. It wasn't until the mid-19th century that modern shower curtain as we know it today began to emerge. The rise of the shower curtain became popular in the 20th century. They were made of fabric or oilcloth used to prevent water from splashing out. It was originally made from materials like cloth or vinyl. In the 1950s and 1960s, they used plastic and vinyl.

The shower curtain is used for interior design decoration. It provides privacy. It is cost effective been less expensive. It is space saving for it does not occupy much space. It may come in many designs, colors and patterns and last but not least it is simple to install. Its shortcoming is that it may develop mildew and molds if not cleaned from time to time. The shower curtain is made of vinyl material because it is durable and water resistant.

1.2 Design

The design of the project consists of many different colors corresponding with each other. The shape of the shower curtain is a rectangle. It fits a size of a door length of 2m. The colors are proportional making the shower unique because of the mixture of colors. It has an outstanding white color signifying cleanliness of a bathroom.

The design of the shower curtain gives the bathroom a simple and stylish way giving it a chic and classy look. It has a variety of colors, styles and patterns that fit any kind of a home decor.

1.3Color scheme

The shower curtain comprises of a split complimentary color scheme. It utilizes a base color and two secondary colors. It is chosen because the pink and brown are contrasting against green. The white color brings calmness, comfort to a user in a bathroom. It is a light, neutral color associated with new beginnings. It makes smaller spaces seem bigger. The pink color signify love and tenderness. It is associated with kindness and love and it is believed to boost creativity and feelings of calm and peace. The brown color is a warm, grounding neutral color that provokes a feeling of safety. It reminds people of the basic necessities. The green color is considered to be the most balanced color. It encourages a person to be independent and makes changes as well as enhances feelings of love, joy and inner peace.

1.4 Objectives

1. To promote privacy in a bathroom by using a shower curtain.

2. To utilize skill learnt during training which include measuring, cutting, sewing, binding and fixing.

3. To promote eye appeal by using split complimentary color scheme with white, pink, brown and green.

4. To cut down cost of production by using a shower curtain instead of a glass door.

5. To write a report on production, care and maintenance of a shower curtain.

1.5 Significance of the study

1. Shower curtain are for preventing water or moisture from leaving the bathroom creating a barrier and warmness to the bathroom.

2. Shower curtain add privacy while showering for an individual

3. Shower curtain keep the bathroom looking beautiful acting as a decorative element of various colors.

4. Shower curtains are more affordable and pocket friendly compared to the glass door.

5. Shower curtains are easy to be maintained and cleaned by just wiping down gently making it last for long.

1 .6 Scope of the study

Shower curtain are uses for mainly privacy in a bathroom. They have a design variety because it comes from a wide range of colors, patterns and styles for it to match any bathroom decor. They are made of different materials including vinyl, polyester and cotton.

They have features like water resistant coatings, antimicrobial properties or weighted hems for better functionality. They can be used in a variety of settings, from homes to hotels making them in different designs that are easily accessible.

They can be easily changed out to reflect seasonal themes or personal tastes, offering flexibility in home decor. In a smaller bathroom, shower curtain can create the illusion of more space compared to bulky shower doors.

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

A shower curtain accounts for a small space in a bathroom. Furthermore, shower curtains enhances privacy making it comfortable for a person to bathe at. The shower curtain is used as a water barrier so that water does not splash out of the shower. All the materials needed to make a shower curtain are assembled. First, the space of the shower curtain is measured typically 72inches tall. The fabric is then cut according to the measurements. Fold the edges if the fabric and this will create a clean hem. Sew along the pinned edges. Create holes at the top and sew around them. Attach the grommets and the curtain rings.

In the early century, greater Egyptians invented curtains. The first curtains were made of woven mats or palm fibers hanged on hooks. Before the modern materials used today, shower curtains were made of fabric such as cotton or polyester often treated to be water resistant. The modern shower curtain emerged in the early 20th century. They were made of fabric or oilcloth.

The purposes of a shower curtain is mainly for privacy for an individual. It is used as a decorative element to enhance the beauty of a bathroom with various colors, patterns and styles. It enhances space division in large bathrooms which help in dividing space creating a more defined showering area. They are easy to clean making maintenance simple. The shortcomings of a shower curtain is that if not cleaned regularly it may form molds and mildew that lead to bacteria growth.

The shower curtain is made of different designs with solid colors. Simple and elegant that can match any bathroom décor. Patterns and prints are floral geometric and add a pop of color and personality. Vertical or horizontal strips can create a classic and modern look.

The shower curtain is maintained by washing it regularly using cold water. Wipe down vinyl material with a damp cloth using mild detergent or vinegar to prevent mildew. Drying completely after each shower to prevent molds. Ensure the bathroom is well ventilated to reduce humidity. If not in use, store the shower curtain in a dry area. Shower curtain is made of a heavy material called vinyl which is more durable against water. The curtains would often be lined or treated which coating to improve water resistance and ease of cleaning.
